Home » Holes In Pothos Leaves

Welcome to this article that will be talking about why there might be some holes appearing in your pothos leaves. The unfortunate news is that there is a pest present in the soil that is causing this to happen.

This pest is called liriomyza melanogaster. It is a very devicive one as it will be hiding in the soil during the day and come out at night and then start eating away from the pothos leaves. It’s an insect that can be hard to get rid of.

Follow along in this article and we will be talking more in-depth about how you can get rid of this pest. We would also like to mention how great the pothos plant is for beginners getting into gardening. Even though these issues can occur, the pothos plant can often withstand them.

Pothos Plant With Holes

Holes In Pothos Leaves

Just like we mentioned at the beginning of the article here, the pothos plant will have holes in the leaves because there is a pest in the soil. This pest is called liriomyza melanogaster. It is unfortunately not a very uncommon thing to have in the soil. But the severity of it can widely differ.

Is difficult getting rid of or even see the insects as they will be hiding in the soil during the day and only come out at night instead. This way it will be hard to get rid of the insects or even spot them.

They will only be affecting the leaves of the plant as the flowers of the plant will be closed during the night. But there are some things you could be doing to get rid of them, but they will often induce using treatments that we don’t really like, stuff like pesticides and whatnot.

Using insecticidal soap will often treat the leaves affected and cause the insects to die when they try to eat from them. Eventually, you will diminish the flock of insects and perhaps save the plant from any new attacks.

But there are of course some measures you could take to prevent the plant from having this happen. Keeping the plant healthy will lower the risk of having anything happen to it. This means that the soil should be rich in nutrients and also well watered too.

How Do You Treat Holes In Plant Leaves

Treating a plant when there are holes appearing on it might not be as easy as you think, at least not if you don’t want to use pesticides or any type of chemical

The best thing to use will be an insecticidal soap. This is used by rubbing it on the plant where the holes are appearing. It will hopefully keep the insects from eating the plant anymore. With some luck as well you kill off a few of them and eventually the flock of insects in the ground will disappear.

But treating the plant in a healthy environment will also help a lot in preventing it from ever getting attacked by these pests. This means making sure the soil is kept well-nurtured and rich in nutrients.

If the pothos plant is also getting a lot of suns each day then that will further help the plant in making sure there are no issues with pests and diseases in the future.

Why Does My Pothos Have Brown Holes

The reason a pothos plant will have brown spots or holes appear is because there are insects eating away from your plant. These are often caused by a kind called liriomyza melanogaster

Using an insecticidal soap will help treat your plant and make for a hostile environment for the interests instead. With some luck, this will make them appear less.
