Why Is There An Almond In My Peach

As we mentioned at the beginning of the article here, the peach seed does look a lot like an almond but is in fact something called a noyau instead. The peach fruit is in the family of almond fruits and therefore the seed is called an almond.

The shape and the look even have some resemblances to an actual almond. This is most likely why a lot of people are referring to the seed like this. But let’s talk a little bit more about what you could be doing with this almond and what the possibilities are with it.

The peach tree is one of the better fruit trees out there for beginners to start growing. Unlike a lot of other fruit trees, the peach tree will produce edible fruits even though you are planting a seed from fruit. Apples are a clear example of a tree where the fruit will be inedible if you plant from a seed of your own. They need to be mixed and matched so the fruit is not extremely sour or bitter. But that is a topic of its own.

We find that harvesting the peach seed as soon as possible is the best route to take. Make sure that you just lightly crack open the seed to leave some oxygen coming in there. That way you can plant the entire seed and let it start sprouting from the opening. Leaving it in a sunny spot and never letting the soil dry out are about the only things you will need to do.

Is The Nut Of The Peach Poisonous

The nut inside the peach also referred to as the seed of the peach fruit is not good for us. It is in fact actually poisonous. That is because it contains cyanide compounds that are extremely harmful to the human body.

Making sure that you are not consuming any peach seeds is very important. Thankfully it’s something a lot of people aren’t really thinking about eating either. Instead, there are other things you could be doing with your peach seeds.

One of them is what we talked about before here, to plant it and eventually have a peach tree of your own at home. That way you can follow along on the progress from the very beginning and perhaps one day enjoy the fruits of the labor.

But tossing it in compost is also a great way of getting some use from it as it decomposes and creates earth and nutrition for beneficial bacteria.
