Should I Soak My Thyme Seeds Before Planting

Soaking your thyme indoors before planting them can be a very good idea. Believe it or not but you sort of eliminate the risk of accidentally drawing the seed when sowing and the watering. It can take what it needs during the night and then it will be set for growing. But a good tip is to leave the thyme seeds in water in the fridge overnight. The water should obviously also be cold too. Otherwise the seed might be too stressed and the soaking is kinda pointless.

.

After they have been soaking throughout the night then you can strain the seeds. A side point too is that you should try and have fresh seeds. Fresh kind means either just picked from a thyme plant that has seeded or from ones that have been dried within the last 6 months. I like to grow the thyme indoors before planting it in a bigger pot or outside on freeland

How Do You Germinate Thyme Seeds

I find that the best way is to have a small container where you grow one seed in each. Then you can pick and choose which ones you would like to report. You can choose the healthiest ones to have the best chance for success. Since thyme is such an easy to grow herb then you wont need to do a whole lot after you have sown the seeds. Just make sure that there is a small hole in the bottom so the excess water can flow out and not pool at the bottom. That could otherwise have a very negative effect on the thyme.

.

Much like sowing thyme indoors before the frost has cleared will give you a headstart to the season and probably more harvest at the end of summer. But doing that and also soaking the seeds beforehand will increase that even more. Even though thyme is a hardy plant it’s always a good idea doing this.

.

I want to reiterate again on what we have talked about and the question about whether you should your thyme seeds before planting. I think it’s a good idea because they will get all the water and nutrients they need and be very ready for sowing. They actually germinate quicker this way, saving a couple of days of time. A win win all around.
