How Often Should You Water Thyme Seeds

So growing thyme from seed is actually one of the most rewarding things you can do at home in your garden. It’s a relatively slow growing culinary herb but it can for sure wrap up some speed if it has the right conditions to grow in. I mentioned in the beginning of the article that it can be tricky knowing how much you should water the thyme seeds. They are pretty vulnerable to too much water in the beginning as they are just starting out. Too much can drown them and then you won’t have any plants. But too little can completely dry them out. I usually like to lean to the slightly drier side, because it’s a herb that I like the most.

.

This means that I never water if the soil is still moist. A thing that can happen with thyme is that the roots will rot if there is too much water and it pools in the bottom. But to counter this you can make sure that there are holes in the bottom of whatever you are growing in. On freeland that might be hard, then you just need to be more careful watering.

How Do You Water Thyme Seeds

When I grow thyme I would never really water more than once a week. Especially when the seeds have just been sown. Once I see that they are thriving and growing faster than I water even less. A fun fact about some of the culinary herbs we have is that they will taste better and be more concentrated if they struggle a bit with getting both water and nutrition.

.

Something you can also do with thyme seeds is soak them in water the day before and leave them like that in a container in the fridge overnight. Then you don’t really need to water the seeds when you sow them. Doing this practice will give the seeds a head start in the germinating process and you might find that you see signs of life above the surface even faster.

.

I want to reiterate the question a bit again of how often you should water thyme seeds. The answer is not very often, at the most once a week really. It will have a sufficient amount with this schedule and you wont run the risk of drowning them.
