Welcome to this article that will be talking about why the roots on your snake plant might start to disappear. The most common reason why a snake plant might suddenly be missing roots is because of overwatering. This will greatly damage the root system and cause them to rot.

Knowing how much water the plant needs is a very important part of caring for and cultivating a snake plant at home. Without that knowledge, you might end up doing a lot of harm to the plant without even knowing it.

Follow along in this article and we will together learn even more about growing and especially watering a snake plant properly. Despite these things happening to a snake plant we still consider the plant to be one of the best ones for beginners that want to get into gardening and have a houseplant at home.

Snake Plants Roots Gone

Just like we said at the beginning of this post, the roots disappearing from your snake plant will have a lot to do with being overwatered. The plant can’t take it for too long and will instead have them rot.

When there is too much water in the soil oxygen cant travel through the soil and make the roots benefit from it. They will start to drown and after a pretty short time, the roots will begin to rot.

Because of this, we need to be aware of how much a snake plant actually needs to survive and also thrive where it’s growing. We always recommend that you shouldn’t be watering indoor plants in large amounts at a time. Instead, just add a little bit at a time and do that until the soil is somewhat damp or semi-dry.

This has shown to be the best texture and condition for the snake plant to grow in. We Have had great success doing it this way. But if you accidentally add too much water then there are thankfully a few things you can do to hopefully revert this and save the roots from drowning.

Placing the plant in a very sunny spot when you feel the soil has become overwatered will make the soil dry out quicker. It would help if you didn’t have to worry about the plant being exposed to a lot of direct sunlight. It was originally a desert plant where the environment is of course very dry and hot.

Will Snake Plant Regrow Roots

The roots on the snake will begin to regrow once the environment and the soil is prosperous again and the plant doesn’t feel like any more harm is coming. It is by the way a very hardy variety to grow at home. So a lot of things have to be thrown at it before it will die.

But when the soil gets overheated the root systems of the plant will begin to drown and won’t grow. They can’t get the necessary amount of oxygen needed which will cause the plant above the surface to turn black.

The best cure for this, once it has started to happen, is to place the plant in a very sunny spot. That will hopefully make it start to dry out a bit quicker and the roots can once again regrow and support the plant.

But note that when the plant above the surface of the soil is turning black then most likely the possibility of saving the plant is very slim.

Can A Snake Plant Recover From Root Rot

A snake plant can eventually recover from root rot if you set it up in a great place to do so. The temperature should be pretty high and the plant will need a lot of suns. This is to make sure the soil stays somewhat dry and you have more leeway to water the plant.

Once you have established this then you will just need to wait and look at the plant to see whether it’s starting to look healthy again or not.
