But you also need to be aware of some of the steps you need to take to have the best success with growing thyme outside. The ideal climate for it is a warm and sunny place where the soil is actually not too rich in nutrients. The soil also needs to be very well drained to avoid having the roots rot. The fact that the herb doesn’t require a lot of nutrients in the soil makes it even easier to grow at home. You don’t have to spend that extra time making sure you have fertilized the soil correctly. Now, of course some nutrient in the form of organic fertilizers or manure can be very beneficial.

Can Thyme Live Outside?

As we are growing outside, the plant will actually require less sunlight during the day as opposed to being grown inside. Around 6 – 8 hours a day will be enough. Thyme is a pretty slow growing herb so patience is key with growing this one. But like I said previously, it is a very rewarding herb to grow at home as it will supply you with so much harvest during the season.

.

With thyme if you cut off one stem then most likely two new ones will take shape and grow out. So if you make sure you have the steps above covered then your basil can be put outside without any issues. Just make sure that when you are harvesting that you never cut away anymore than 30 % of the plant as that might stress it out too much.

.

So to reiterate again on the question, can you put thyme outside? Of course you can, and it might be the best place to put it honestly. It has the space to develop a large root system and be a vital part of your home garden.
