Air Plant Flower Dies

Like we said at the beginning here already, it’s entirely normal that the flower on an air plant will start wilting and die. It’s something that happens to all plants out there. There really isn’t one that has everlasting flowers.

The flower will start wilting after a while of blooming. This is as you might be aware a sign that the plant will start wilting and turn back into the soil. But you shouldn’t fear as this happens to all air plants.

There will be a new pulp growing at the bottom of the plant. This is the new main plant. Whilst the other parts are starting to die, the nutrition and energy it generates will be passed onto this new growth taking place.

There isn’t really anything you can do to stop this process. It happens all the time as the plant gets older and ready to perform this final act of blooming.

As for caring about the plant during this, you need to make sure it gets a lot of sunlight. We aim for about 8 – 10 hours of sunlight each day to be on the safe side. But the soil also needs to be healthy. That ensures us the new part will have a great start.

Why Is My Air Plant Flower Dying

The flower on your air plant will eventually start to die. This is something that happens with all plants and shouldn’t worry you at all. The process of blooming is the last thing it will do before wilting.

After the plant has bloomed then there will be a small new pulp starts to form at the bottom of the plant’s main stem. This is where all the energy now will be passed onto.

Because of that, we need to make sure we treat the plant very well. Getting about 8 – 10 hours of sunlight each day is necessary. But also fertilizing the soil to boost the level of the nutrient present will also be important.

How Long Do Air Plants Live After Flowering

Air plants will not live very long after they have started to bloom. This is the final part of the plant’s life. Normally we can expect it to live for another 2 – 4 weeks before wilting down quite rapidly.

But during this time is when the energy and nutrition the plant gathers will go towards the new small growth taking place at the bottom of the plant.
