Home » How To Grow A Variegated ZZ Plant

Welcome to this article that will be talking about planting and growing a variegated ZZ plant. It’s one of the less common houseplants out there. But it’s starting to get more and more attention with the years.

The plant, like a lot of others, needs a place where it can get plenty of sunlight each day and live in soil that is rich in plenty of nutrients too. That’s really the secret to growing this plant.

Follow along in the article below and we will discuss further caring for the ZZ plant and some of the pro tips that we recommend. It’s a pretty resilient plant against disease making it a great choice if you are a beginner in the world of gardening.

Variegated ZZ Plant

As we said at the beginning of the article here already, the ZZ plant is not the most common houseplant out there but still grows in a lot of similar ways compared to other ones.

The plant will need soil that is rich in nutrients and where access to water isn’t an issue. Making sure the soil has nutrients is best done by using some fertilizers about every one or two months. That will help prevent the plant from getting over-fertilized, which would kill the roots and eventually the rest of the plant.

Watering the plant properly is very important. The soil should never be like mud. Instead, you should try and keep the soil slightly damp all the time. That seems to make for the happiest plant.

It’s used to growing in warm and humid environments. So damp soil will help emulate that the best. The roots will start to rot with too much water because there isn’t any oxygen reaching the roots. No oxygen means they will begin to start drowning.

If you are seeing shifts in color on the plant, then the reasons can usually come down to either the plant getting too much sunlight or too much water. Those things will affect the plant but are generally easy to fix too thankfully.

ZZ Plant Indoors

Is ZZ Plant A Good Indoor Plant

The ZZ plant is a great indoor plant actually. It might not be the most common houseplant out there compared to ones like monstera for example. The plant is resilient to a lot of common diseases and whatnot that might affect other plants.

It will also grow very similarly to other house plants too. It will need healthy soil and a place in your home where it can access sunlight for at least 8 – 10 hours a day. That will help the ZZ plant perform enough photosynthesis to keep the energy supply up for continued growth.

Do ZZ Plants Need A Lot Of Sun

ZZ Plants don’t really need more sunlight than any other plant. Indoors the plant should try and get about 8 – 10 hours each day. That way the plant can get enough exposure without causing any stress to the plant instead.

If the plant is getting too much sunlight then the color will shift to a more yellow hue. Too little color and the color will instead start to fade. Thankfully those are issues that can easily be fixed and generally speaking won’t kill the plant at all.
