Like we said at the beginning of the article here, the jade plant can start to have air roots whenever there is soil that isn’t very heavy in nutrition. The roots will instead start to seek nutrition above the surface.
We should mention that the fact the jade plant is starting to grow air roots is not a sign it will anytime soon start dying. It’s simply that some roots need more nutrition.
There is of course a fix to this. Using some fertilizers that can be found in more or less every single gardening store. Use it in moderation though. About every 4 weeks or so is a good schedule to keep.
Using too much fertilizer will instead kill the roots as an excess harms their health of them. Note that this is not really necessary the first few years you are growing the jade plant. As it gets older it will deplete the pool of nutrition in the soil more quickly. That’s when fertilizers come into the picture.
If you are seeing air roots on younger jade plants then that is most likely a bad sign. It means the soil was from the start really bad. Try watering the soil a little bit instead to see whether the roots might be a bit more relaxed.

Why Does My Jade Plant Have Air Roots
As we said in the segment just above here, the jade plant will start showing air roots when the soil it’s growing is no longer super rich in nutrients. This shouldn’t be taken as a bad sign though.
Instead, it’s like a reminder that we either need to repot the plant to a new healthy soil or use some fertilizers to again introduce some nutrition to the soil. Try and only do it every 4 weeks or so though, any more and we might instead kill the roots as there are way too many fertilizers in the soil, it becomes almost artificial instead.

How Do You Strengthen The Roots Of A Jade Plant
Strengthening the roots of the jade plant might be one of the most important things we can do for the plant. The best way to go about doing it is to use fertilizers. This will help introduce a lot of nutrition for the soil which the roots will take up.
Also just watering the soil is also enough sometimes. This also carries a lot of nutrition which turns into fuel and energy for the rest of the plant. Try to keep the soil slightly damp all the time. That seems to be the ideal environment for the jade plant.
