Welcome to this article that will be discussing why your rubber plant might be starting to look sunburnt. There is definitely a limit as to how much the rubber plant is able to take each day before it gets too much.

The plant is for the most part grown as an indoor houseplant. That means we need a little bit more sunlight hours each day as opposed to keeping it outdoors instead. About 8 – 10 hours is the perfect amount.

Follow along in the article here and we will continue to discuss the topic of growing and keeping a rubber plant. It’s one of the less common houseplants we have but nonetheless a beautiful one. It’s great for beginners too since it’s pretty low maintenance.

Green Rubber Plant In The Sun

Rubber Plant Sunburn

As we said at the beginning of the article here already, the rubber plant is one of the less common houseplants out there. But despite that, it still has more or less the same needs as any other houseplant.

They all will need about 8 – 10 hours of sunlight each day. That is if they are kept indoors, outside they will need a little bit less. The plant does not get the same strong dose of sunlight if you keep it indoors

We recommend keeping the plant in a  sunny spot in your house or apartment, that would be a south-facing window. Now, even though the dose and strength of sunlight might be less, the plant is still very much able to be sunburnt.

You will easily be able to see when this happens as the leaves will start to curl a little bit. But the color will also leave the leaves. It will look more yellow and might even start developing brown spots.

When the leaves have been sunburnt, those areas are no longer able to perform photosynthesis. That is the vital part where the plant generates energy from the sunlight it gets exposed to each day.

If the leaves are starting to wrinkle then this article is for you, Rubber Plant Leaves Wrinkled. It’s a pretty common issue that can occur because of a number of reasons.

Should I Cut Brown Leaves Off Rubber Plant

The leaves on the rubber plant which are turning brown are not really that great to keep around. They aren’t able to perform photosynthesis as we said in the other segment of this article.

Because of that, it’s better to just remove the leaves and then wait for the new leaves to start taking shape. They will be fresh and full of energy. Brown leaves can also be caused by a lack of nutrition in the soil. So using some fertilizers for the soil might be a good idea too.

When the leaves have started turning brown, there isn’t something we can do to reverse that happening. So cutting them off is really the best option we have. Do it in smaller amounts though. Don’t clip like leaves at the same time, do one at a time to not cause stress to the plant.

Is A Rubber Plant OK In Direct Sunlight

A rubber plant is definitely okay with direct sunlight. But like we said in the other segments in this article, the plant can be sunburnt and have brown leaves. That is caused by overexposure to the sun each day, and for several days in a row.

Given that, we should be careful about the amount the plant is getting each day and whether it’s really strong light or not. Outside we definitely have a risk of getting way too much sunlight.
